Between Hype
and Hyperreality
Book Design, Extensive Research,
Virtual Reality
metaverse & Emerging technologies
Special Thanks to Instructors:
Brad Bartlett and Roy Tatum
The global pandemic has pushed us to be immersed in a global, interconnected galaxy of virtual worlds, avatars, and online communities, a world where the physical and virtual worlds converge. Between Hype and Hyperreality provides readers with a framework to understand the economy and technology of the Metaverse and the hidden danger of dataveillance, while examining the unlimited potential of the Spatial Web.
Typefaces: Visuelt Pro and Akkurat-Mono
To make this book a portal bridging the real and virtual worlds, I designed the 3D visual language for each chapter opening which allows readers to dive into another world.
Details show how different scales of typography work as a system.
The blind debossing and Swiss Bind techniques reflect the blurry boundary between real and virtual.
Virtual Reality + Web VR Experience
The WebVR component of the book turns it into an embodiment of the Metaverse, transcending the printed 2D artifact to a 3-dimensional space. The book itself is a portal from the physical to the virtual world where readers can navigate through the content freely and read the book from a brand new perspective.
Book Launch Posters as a slice of the book narrative to further maximize the in-person experience.
